Why I sampled hit songs in new album – D’banj

Popular singer, D’banj, renowned for his electrifying stage presence has revealed the motivation behind sampling some of his hits songs in his latest album titled, ‘The Entertainer D’ Sequel’.


During an exclusive boat cruise album listening experience, D’banj told Saturday Beats, “Most of my albums came out before the digital era; that’s why I went back and sampled some of my hits.

“As the 20-year anniversary of my debut was getting closer, pressure set in, so I knew that I needed to finish that album by December last year but it didn’t work, so the others were created in January and February.”

The singer added that ‘Serious’ an Afropop version of Busta Rhymes’ Dangerous is the oldest song on the album.

Other tracks include ‘Kala’ featuring Awilo Logomba, ‘I Am Legend’ with Wyclef Jean, ‘Healer’ featuring Peruzzi, ‘Koko Remix’ with Akon, ‘Yours Truly’ with Phyno, and ‘Worthy’ featuring Youssou N’dour and other songs.

Sowore released after brief detention at Lagos airport

The Nigerian Immigration Service initially detained Omoyele Sowore, the convener of the #RevolutionNow Movement, at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos on Sunday immediately after his return to Nigeria. This occurred on the same day that members of the Take It Back Movement and other activists gathered at the airport in anticipation of his arrival. Nigerian filmmaker, Pascal Atuma, who resides in Canada, is set to release his latest movie titled “Imported Wives,” which explores marriages affected by the Japa syndrome, featuring a stellar cast of Omoni Oboli, Nancy Isime, Mama Gee, Ngozi Nwosu, Linda Osifo, Joseph Benjamin and others. 161 Nigerian students fail UK border checks, denied entry

No fewer than 1,425 international students who gained admission to universities in the United Kingdom were denied entry at the country’s airports between 2021 and 2023. A total of 161 Nigerians were affected, as they were removed on arrival at airports across the UK. According to data exclusively obtained from the UK Home Office through the Freedom of Information Act, India topped the list of affected foreign students with 644, representing 45 per cent of the figure, while Nigeria followed with 11.3 per cent. Ghana is third on the list with 92 (6.46 per cent), while Bangladesh is fourth with 90 (6.32 per cent). However, the released data, covering October 2021 to October 2023, is limited to students denied entry at the airports. It does not include international students deported by the Home Office for violating the terms of their visas, such as working beyond 20 hours weekly and academic malpractice. Pavel Durov, the founder and CEO of the Telegram messaging app, has been arrested at Bourget airport outside Paris for alleged offences related to his messaging app. Local sources said on Sunday that Durov, 39, had been travelling on his private jet from Azerbaijan and that a French arrest warrant targeted him as part of a preliminary investigation.
