FG declares Monday as Eid-ul-Mawlid holiday

The Federal Government has declared Monday, September 16, 2024, as a public holiday to mark the celebration of the Eid-ul-Mawlid.


Eid-ul-Mawlid is the commemoration of the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).


The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the declaration on behalf of the federal government in a statement by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Magdalene Ajani, on Friday.

While congratulating the Muslim Ummah on the occasion, he implored them to use the opportunity of the period to pray for enduring peace and a more prosperous egalitarian nation.

The minister urged the Muslims and all Nigerians to imbibe the spirit of patience, sacrifice, and resilien

Simon Ekpa hires American lobbyist to advance Biafra’s cause in the United States

Simon Ekpa, a controversial Biafra agitator, has hired an American lobbying firm, Moran Global Strategies (MGS), to advance agitation for the independent state of Biafra. Mr Ekpa, based in Finland, heads Autopilot, a faction of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). IPOB is a separatist group agitating for the creation of an independent state of Biafra from south-east and some parts of south-south Nigeria. The two regions are usually called “Biafra” or sometimes “Biafra land” by IPOB and other separatist groups in the area. Heavily armed Policemen late Wednesday night invaded the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Headquarters, Abuja, commonly known as Labour House. Though details of the invasion is still sketchy, Vanguard gathered that the stern looking policemen stormed the Labour House some few minutes to 9 pm and ransacked both the Second and 10th floors. A source told Vanguard that “Comrades, armed security men, both in uniform and mufti just invaded the Labour House in their numbers and were at the 10th Floor and 2nd Floor. “They broke into second floor and ransacked books at the bookshop carrying all the materials into their van claiming that the materials were used to incite and organize the recent protest.”

During a recent interactive session posted on X Sunday, the ‘Ome Ope’ singer said that while he can sing in English, he prefers to sing in his native dialect, Yoruba. Speaking further, the singer emphasized that he cannot change who he is to become someone else. Nandap made this known on Tuesday in Abuja during a combined news conference by the heads of security agencies and Service Chiefs convened by the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, at the Defence Headquarters. She said, “We have identified some diaspora sponsors; they are on our watch list. “We will be notified of any attempt they make to enter the country, and they will be picked up and handed to the appropriate authority.” The immigration boss said the service had, in response to the protest, deployed more officers to borders, both land and airports, to ensure effective manning of those entry ports. She said that NIS had also stepped up surveillance to prevent foreign intervention in the country. The proposal, which was captured in a viral video, shows the talent manager guiding Adesanya to the venue, where he then popped the question.
